Brooklyn Mutts Shine

Last weekend, mutt lovers faced the pouring rain and joined together at the Brooklyn Lyceum for the first ever Brooklyn Mutt Show. The event reached its goal to raise $2,000 for the Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition, or BARC, and was as much fun as it was quirky.

Contests included amusing categories such as ‘Most like Owner,’ ‘Least Useful Trick’ and ‘Sloppiest Kisser,’ which kick-started the event.

Bella, the 2-year-old Teacup Poodle look-a-like, won second place in the ‘Most Unlike a Dog’ category and Biggie Smalls, a visiting French Bulldog, won a ribbon for noisiest dog in the crowd.

Contest organizers were pleased with the turnout, but found a few categories, like ‘Most Nutritionally Challenged,’ hard to fill. “Nobody wants to admit their dog is fat,” said a volunteer from BARC shelter.

Mutt lovers are encouraged to keep in touch through the Mutt Show’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Stay tuned for next year’s event!
